Celebrando el carnaval en municipios cercanos a Madrid

Carnival is a tradition that has been celebrated for centuries, with origins dating back to the time of the Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. It is a time when masks and costumes take over the streets of cities around the world.

This year, the festivities, Chirigotas, costume contests, and parties are scheduled to take place between February 28 and March 5, although some municipalities in Madrid may start a few days earlier. Here is a brief guide to ensure you don’t miss out on some of the activities organized in your municipality.

Highlights

One of the main highlights of this year’s carnival is the return of The Funeral of Sardine after more than a decade. Like in other municipalities, it will take place on Wednesday, March 5, coinciding with the beginning of Lent.

The carnival program in the municipality kicks off on February 22 with a children’s carnival group contest at 10 a.m. The most anticipated days will be the upcoming weekend because on March 1, the grand carnival parade is scheduled.

Coslada

The carnival in this municipality will start with its children’s version on February 27 at 5:00 p.m. with The Zacanduri group.

On February 28, there will be a carnival show with various Chirigotas at the Municipal Theater of Coslada at 8:00 p.m. The main carnival day will be on March 1 with the parade scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Following the parade, a wonderful dance will take place at 7:00 p.m.

The Sardine’s Funeral will be on March 5 starting at 5:00 p.m.

FUENLABRADA

This year, there are many activities in the local carnival program, starting on February 27 with a carnival party at 5:00 p.m.

On February 28, there are events planned for all ages. At 5:00 p.m., there will be the family carnival party at the District Council Hall in Loranca and Room in Escape: Searching for Don Carnal at the JMD Viver-Spital-University building.

On the same day at 7:00 p.m., there will be a Carnival Celebration at the Square Square Young and some Chirigotas at the JMD Viver-Spital-University building.

On March 1, there will be a concert by Orquesta de Mondragón at Plaza de Constitución at 7:00 p.m. and a Youth Carnival Party at Plaza de Concordia at 8:00 p.m.

The Grand Carnival Parade will not start until 11:30 a.m. on March 2. It will begin at Plaza de España and end at Plaza de la Constitución. Afterwards, there will be a chance to dance with King Africa Concert at Plaza de la Constitución.

Torrejón de Ardoz

From February 28 to March 2, this municipality will be filled with colors, music, and masks. The carnival starts on February 28 with a Huge Carnival Parade at 5:00 p.m., followed by Discoguachi at 5:30 p.m. Additionally, there will be performances by Cantajuego and Nika y Matsu at 6:00 p.m.

On March 1, the main event will be at 6:00 p.m. with an Outstanding Costume Parade along the avenue with Loeches Street, Pesquera Street, and Plaza Prima.

Undoubtedly, one of the most anticipated moments of the day will be the concert by King Africa at 8:00 p.m.

One of the unique features of Torrejón de Ardoz compared to other municipalities in Madrid is the Sardine’s Funeral before March 2, which will take place at 12:00 p.m. at Plaza de Toros.

Majadahonda

The people of Majadahonda can enjoy the carnival from February 28 to March 5, culminating in the traditional Funeral of Sardine. The funeral procession will start on Calle del Mayor and end at Plaza de Colón.

On February 28, young people aged 12 to 17 are invited to participate in a costume contest starting at 5:30 p.m. Additionally, there will be a Grand Parade at 6:00 p.m.

The Ladanutanes Brass Band will liven up the streets with a parade on March 1 starting at 1:00 p.m. The following day, there will be a Circus Show at 12:00 p.m. at Plaza de Colón.
