Niños y niñas saharauis en Fuenlabrada reciben chequeo médico en Hospital Universitario
As part of the ‘Vacaciones en paz’ program, Sahrawi children spending the summer in Fuenlabrada have undergone a medical check-up at the University Hospital of the city to assess their health status and provide them with healthcare focused on disease prevention.
This is a childcare protocol for the 11 children in foster care in Fuenlabrada, an initiative that is part of the ‘Vacaciones en paz’ program and is made possible thanks to the collaboration of various local entities that facilitate their stay with families in Fuenlabrada during July and August.
The healthcare received by these minors is provided by the Pediatrics Service of the hospital in collaboration with professionals from Nursing, Clinical Analysis, Ophthalmology, and the Admission Area, as explained by the healthcare center in a statement.

In addition, the Pediatrics professionals are responsible for management and coordination tasks when these patients need to be evaluated by other specialists at the hospital.
The usual check-up, when there are no health issues, includes a comprehensive examination: weight, height, cardio-pulmonary auscultation, neck examination, mouth and otoscopy, oxygen saturation, heart rate, and a blood test for first-time pediatric patients.
These pediatric evaluations, which also end with a visual acuity test, allow for the detection and management of health issues that would otherwise go unnoticed.
For the past 16 years, the University Hospital of Fuenlabrada has been involved in this project as «an example of the commitment that the hospital and its professionals have to humanitarian and international cooperation projects that promote people’s health.»
In this context, the Fuenlabrada hospital has also had a cooperation and twinning agreement for years with the Hospital of Saint Joseph de Bebedjia in Chad, to provide healthcare, improve infrastructure, and offer training to both the local population and professionals.
Furthermore, professionals from the General Surgery and Digestive System Service conduct healthcare campaigns in Cameroon in communities with limited access to healthcare. During one of the recent campaigns, the staff at the Fuenlabrada center performed 250 consultations and 165 various surgical procedures.
