The City Council of Fuenlabrada has unanimously approved a motion in its latest session where in 2025, the option of using bank cards and mobile payments on the buses of the Municipal Transport Company of Fuenlabrada (EMTF) will be implemented.
This payment method would be extremely beneficial for transport users to have greater «flexibility» and to replace the current cash payment system.
The technology will enable a «secure and reliable system,» and it is expected to be operational by 2025. In this context, the Council stated that the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) will provide information on implementing a common payment gateway for all community bus operators. Otherwise, they requested permission to set up their own payment gateway.

Last December, the community authorized electronic payments on bus routes in San Lorenzo by El Escorial, Torrejón de Ardoz, Pozuelo de Alarcón, and Arganda.
It is planned that in the first few months of this year, this measure will be implemented in seven other municipalities. These include: Móstoles, Rivas Vaciamadrid, Torrelodones, Valdemoro, Tres Cantos, San Sebastián de los Reyes, and Alcobendas.

Their buses have the necessary technology to process card payments, but the process is on hold until the CRTM implements a common payment gateway for all operators, according to municipal sources.
