More than 2,500 primary, secondary, and high school students, belonging to 41 institutes from different autonomous communities, mainly from Madrid, have exhibited half a thousand robotized projects at the Fernando Martín sports pavilion in Fuenlabrada.
These are robots built by the students throughout the school year in their educational centers. Grouped in teams, they showcase their designs and machines that will have to compete to demonstrate the skills of their programming.
The robots will face six different challenges: open-source hardware robots (Arduino and similar, microbit); Sumo, Hockeybot, Soccerbot competitions, and a free test category where innovative projects are showcased.
Two robots, the sensation of the Mutua Madrid Open
«The objective is to promote the scientific-technical vocations of our students through the use of educational robotics in the classroom,» stated Mayor Javier Ayala, who adds that «hosting this event aligns with the educational support policies provided by the City Council to families and educational centers in our city.»
«On the other hand, in Robocampeones, students apply the content acquired in their classes to build and program their robots,» explained councilor Isidoro Ortega. Mayor Javier Ayala presented the awards to the winners once the tests were completed.
